Review His Property
Okay, so I just finished reading "His Property," and wow, what a ride! Let me preface this by saying the grammar and spelling could definitely use a good edit – several reviewers mentioned this, and I have to agree. There were enough typos and inconsistencies to occasionally pull me out of the story, which is a shame because the basic plot was genuinely captivating.
The premise itself – a young woman, Dalia, essentially gifted as a birthday present to a powerful mafia boss's son, Vittore – is inherently dramatic and intriguing. It immediately sets the stage for conflict and tension, and Amil Vivianne does a great job of capitalizing on that. The "safe house" setup, Dalia's struggle to reclaim her identity, and Vittore's internal conflict as he grapples with his feelings for her all create a compelling narrative core. The story truly grabbed me from the beginning, and I found myself completely invested in Dalia’s journey.
While the romance was a significant part of the story, it wasn't overly saccharine or predictable. Some reviewers felt it lacked heat, and I can see where they're coming from, but I think the focus was more on the power dynamic and the slow burn of their relationship. It felt realistic given the circumstances, and the emotional connection between Dalia and Vittore gradually built throughout the book. I especially appreciated that Dalia wasn't a helpless damsel; she actively fought for her independence and agency, which made her a strong and relatable heroine. Vittore, too, wasn't your typical brooding alpha male; his acceptance of Dalia’s capabilities felt genuine and refreshing.
The action sequences were another highlight. The descriptions, despite the occasional editing hiccup, were vivid enough to keep me on the edge of my seat. The world-building, while not overly detailed, was effective in establishing the dangerous and complex environment in which Dalia and Vittore operate. The author managed to weave in betrayals, jealousy, and the ever-present threat of violence seamlessly into the plot, creating a level of suspense that kept me turning the pages.
However, the ending felt a little…abrupt to some readers, as a few mentioned. I also felt that a couple of the plot points could have benefited from further exploration. A more detailed resolution to certain conflicts would have added depth and enhanced the overall reading experience.
Despite the editing issues, "His Property" is a story that sticks with you. The central conflict, the compelling characters, and the thrilling storyline outweigh the minor flaws for me. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a high-stakes romance with a strong female lead and a healthy dose of mafia drama. Just be prepared for some editing inconsistencies, and maybe keep a dictionary handy! If the author revisits this and polishes it up, it could easily become a five-star read. For now, it's a solid four stars for me, based on the sheer enjoyment I derived from the core narrative.
